HERE’S HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DENTAL INSURANCE
Why should you use your dental benefits before the end of the year?
If you have dental insurance, it’s important to get the most out of your benefits. Here are 5 big reasons to leverage your dental insurance benefits before the end of the year.
#1
You pay for those benefits all year long
All year, a portion of your paycheck goes toward your dental insurance. Since you’ve already paid for those benefits, it only makes sense to use them.
At minimum, you should see your dentist twice a year. If you aren’t utilizing all of your appointments, you’re essentially wasting money.
#2
Annual dental insurance maximums don’t roll over
Many plans have a maximum amount the insurance will pay for dental care in a given year. Unfortunately, the annual maximum doesn’t roll over year-to-year.
So, if you don’t utilize the money your insurance will pay out for dental appointments in 2021, you will lose that money in 2022.
#3
FSA benefits often expire at the end of the year
If you have a Flex Savings Account, or FSA, that can be used on dental care, your benefits may actually expire at the end of 2021. Depending on the plan you have, you may lose all the money in your FSA account at the end of the year.
Be sure you know whether your money rolls over to the next year or not. After all, that’s tax-free money that can be used to pay for dental care for you and your kids.
#4
You’re close to hitting your annual deductible
If you haven’t quite hit your annual insurance deductible, but you’re close to doing so, it’s worth getting all of your dental appointments in before the end of the year. Particularly if you have prescriptions that apply toward your deductible, and your dental care also applies toward the same deductible, you might as well get the most out of your insurance benefits now.
Plus, the average deductible for dental insurance is $50. So, even if your dental care doesn’t go toward your health insurance deductible, it isn’t hard to hit your out-of-pocket maximum for dental.
#5
Preventative care is far cheaper than dental treatment
Treatment for cavities is much more expensive than a preventative dental care appointment. Plus, the longer you wait, the more likely a cavity will evolve into a bigger issue, such as the need for a root canal.
And if you think that children never need root canals, think again. Anyone with a severe enough infection could need a root canal, or even a complete tooth extraction.
DON’T WAIT UNTIL DENTAL ISSUES GET WORSE
Leverage your dental insurance benefits today!
Don’t wait until your child has cavities to see the dentist. Even if you think your child has perfect teeth, it’s still important to tend to preventative care. Plus, you can get the most out of your dental insurance before the year ends.
On the flip side, don’t let the need for expensive dental treatments stand in the way of your child’s health. If you need financing help, or if you’re worried about the extent of treatment your child needs, please feel free to reach out.
