We are aware that visiting the dentist causes many patients anxiety, especially children. As part of our commitment to our patients at Orem Pediatric Dentistry, we are pleased to feature a variety of sedation options, including general anesthesia and nitrous oxide. Now your child can visit the dentist without fear or worry.
We see many children that have had bad experiences with the dentist in the past, and our goal is to give them the safe, enjoyable experience they deserve. Dr. R. Bruce Howell is a specialist in pediatric dentistry, and has received years of additional training and education to be able to meet the unique dental needs of children.
Part of this training involves the use of sedation to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during treatment.
Whenever possible, we recommend dental treatment options that do not involve sedation. So, if Dr. Howell recommends general anesthesia, you can rest assured that he does so with your child’s best interests in mind.
As with any procedure, we want parents to be informed of the benefits and risks. If you have questions or concerns about sedation, please feel free to discuss with the dentist during your appointment.
Our sedation options include:
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is one of the most common sedation techniques used in dentistry. It is administered through a comfortable mask, and helps patients feel more calm. Whether a child is worried about a new environment, has bad memories of the dentist, or just has the jitters, we have found nitrous oxide to be extremely helpful.
For more complex treatments, general anesthesia may be the best choice. We will discuss your child’s medical history and any other needs with you before beginning treatment.
For procedures that require sedation, we work with a certified anesthesiologist from Mountain Point Medical. After the procedure, our in-office RN circulator helps children wake from sedation and discusses aftercare needs with the parents. This process ensures that your child receives the absolute best, expert care from specialized processionals.
With our sedation dentistry in Orem, Utah, we can minimize your child’s discomfort and help them feel calm while we care for their smile. Please call Dr. R. Bruce Howell at 801-802-7200 if you have questions and to schedule your child’s next appointment!
